Diana, Princess of Wales

What started out as a wedding with all the royal trappings, blossomed into different charities, and ended in tragedy, would always remain in people’s hearts. She was known as the Queen of Hearts or otherwise known as Her Royal Highness Princess Diana of Wales.

When Diana married Prince Charles, she was thrown into the public’s view. We witnessed everything from her wedding, the princes’ births, her many charities, her auction’s, and also her death.

Her respect for others went beyond the limitations of the palace walls. She respected everyone from designers, to singers, to actors/actress, and even to the lowest of classes in India and other foreign countries. Every where she went she touched hearts.

She persevered against all odds by helping the lives of people hurt. She set goals to help others and she did. Whether or not you were in hurt emotional or physically, she would reach out to you.

She was caring, concerned, and compassionate. She always looked out for her children, friends, and people she didn’t even know. By touching a hand or a face, by giving a hug or a smile, or just by listening or saying hi, she encouraged people to be strong and made them feel that someone else still cared.

Diana was also courageous. She would walk out among the people and not be afraid of what would happen. She helped with the problems of landmines and AIDS. If she was faced with a problem she would push forward head on.

On August 30, 1997, the world was shocked with the news of Princess Diana’s tragic death. Shortly after midnight, with the paparazzi chasing her, Diana’s car hit a column in the tunnel along the Seine River at the Pont de l’Alme bridge. At four a.m. at the Hospital de la Pitie Salpetriere the hospital, of which she was taken to, gave the grime news of her death at a news conference.

With the news of her death, the world was torn apart. All the people whose lives she touched grieved for their lost princess. Soon, flowers and grievances flowed from Kensington palace to Buckingham; in some places making it impossible to walk.

The one positive thing about her death is that during her life she gave all that she had so that people would feel better or be happy. By doing this many people reached out to others without even realizing and helped others as they grieved. At her funeral the outpouring was so large that they lengthened the travel from Buckingham to Westminster Abbey so that the people who weren’t able to go to the Abbey to attend her funeral could see the princess they so loved. Even those invited grieved harshly. Luciano Pavarotti was so devastated by her death that he at first thought that he would not be able to attend. He even turned down a request to sing because he was so distraught by her death. The hardest hit by her death was her two sons’, Prince William and Prince Harry. Because they were so close to their mother, both boys walked behind the gun carriage that carried Diana’s coffin.
